As explained in a good overview
article about physical
therapy, Physical Therapy utilizes things called modalities which include
properties of
heat, cold, air, light, water, electricity, and sound and mechanical energy.
The modalities are used to help decrease pain and increase movement and function.
Examples of Physical Therapy modalities are:
- Hotpacks
- Coldpaks
- Whirlpools
- TENS (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation)

- Ultrasound
- Iontophoresis
- Massage
- Pelvic Traction
- Cervical Traction
Advance Physical Therapy has the equipment and supplies to perform all of the above modalities and others.
The equipment at APT, such as the Biodex machine and the Total Gym, is also used for strengthening and stretching excercises as well as for measuring strength, endurance and range of motion.

Exercise therapy can be performed not only with machines and heavy equipment but also with simple portable devices such as exercise tubes and therabands which patients can bring home.
Personally, I use an exercise tube to strengthen a
weakened right foot
- which, in my case, is a condition arising secondary to a herniated disc.
