Some primary physicians are members of organizations which would, for financial reasons, prefer to direct you to an even more limited specialist network than the already circumscribed network of your health plan. Health plans allow these sub-networks to exist because they're financially beneficial for them as well. However, as a consumer of the plan, you can insist that the full scope of the plan's specialist network be made available to you. The plan and the primary physician's office must oblige provided that the primary agrees with the need for physical therapy.
